At a glance
- STRANTOP does not currently offer a dedicated film-grade PA6 product. This page is maintained as a technical reference on how PA6 resin characteristics can affect film processing and qualification; it should not be read as a statement of current film-grade product availability.
- Film extrusion requires stable melt behavior and consistent polymer quality.
- The appropriate PA6 viscosity range depends on the film process and structure rather than on one universal target.
- Moisture control is important before melt processing because PA6 is hygroscopic.
- Buyers should identify whether the material will be used in cast film, blown-film-related processing, biaxial orientation, coextrusion or another film route where applicable.

Current STRANTOP portfolio scope
STRANTOP does not currently offer a dedicated film-grade PA6 product. This page is maintained as a technical reference on how PA6 resin characteristics can affect film processing and qualification; it should not be read as a statement of current film-grade product availability.
Why PA6 is used in film
PA6 can contribute toughness, puncture resistance and useful gas-barrier performance to flexible-packaging and industrial film structures. It may be used as a monolayer film in selected applications or as one layer within a coextruded or laminated structure.
The final package performance depends on the full film design, layer thickness, orientation, other polymers, adhesives or tie layers, processing and end-use conditions. Resin selection is therefore one part of a broader film-engineering decision.
What film processors typically compare
- Current grade
- Cast / blown / oriented film route
- Target thickness and structure
- Key optical or mechanical requirement
- Line conditions and current processing concern
What makes film processing different
Film extrusion creates a thin continuous product, making melt uniformity and process stability particularly important. Variations that might be less visible in a thick molded part can create gauge, appearance or web-handling issues in film.
Relative viscosity or another viscosity specification is commonly used as one part of grade selection because melt strength and flow behavior must match the process. The relevant numerical target and test method should be confirmed for the actual equipment and film route.
Moisture, handling and extrusion consistency
Because PA6 absorbs moisture, film processors should control packaging exposure and follow grade-specific drying guidance before extrusion when required. Excessive moisture at melt temperature can degrade the polymer and reduce process consistency.
Film projects may also be sensitive to gels, contamination, additive choice, color, slip or surface requirements and downstream printing, lamination or orientation behavior. These requirements should be communicated during grade selection rather than evaluated only after a production trial.
What to send when requesting a film-grade PA6
Provide the current or reference resin, film process, mono- or multilayer structure, target thickness or layer role, required viscosity or key specification, end-use application and destination market. If the film will contact food or requires another regulatory status, identify that requirement at the beginning of the review.

Does STRANTOP currently offer a dedicated film-grade PA6 product?
No. STRANTOP does not currently offer a dedicated film-grade or BOPA PA6 product. The film resources on this site are technical references; current commercial PA6 offerings should be checked on the PA6 product page.
Can any PA6 resin be used for film extrusion?
No. Film processing has specific viscosity, melt-stability and quality requirements, so the grade should be selected for the process.
Does PA6 film need drying before extrusion?
PA6 is hygroscopic, and the applicable grade should be processed according to its moisture and drying guidance.
Is film-grade PA6 only for food packaging?
No. PA6 film is used in multiple flexible-packaging and industrial film applications; regulatory requirements depend on the end use.
