At a glance
- STRANTOP does not currently offer a dedicated BOPA or film-grade PA6 product. This page is maintained as a technical reference on BOPA resin and processing requirements; it should not be read as a statement of current BOPA product availability.
- BOPA refers to biaxially oriented polyamide film and requires resin qualified for the intended film process.
- A generic PA6 resin description is not enough to establish BOPA suitability.
- Melt consistency, film quality, orientation behavior and moisture control are central qualification topics.
- Food-contact or other compliance requirements must be confirmed for the specific grade and target market.

What makes BOPA different from general extrusion
BOPA film is produced by forming a polyamide film and orienting it in both machine and transverse directions. The resin must therefore support not only stable melt extrusion but also the downstream stretching and film-quality requirements of the line.
A material that can be extruded into a sheet is not automatically a qualified BOPA grade. Film processors should review the supplier's grade recommendation and conduct line trials under their actual orientation conditions.
What BOPA processors typically compare
- Reference resin
- Film structure and target thickness
- Extrusion / orientation route
- Key defect or quality concern
- Required documentation and annual volume
Key resin considerations for film processors
Film applications can be sensitive to polymer consistency, gels or contamination, moisture, viscosity and thermal history. The relative importance of each item depends on the line design and final film specification.
- Film-grade designation and supplier recommendation
- Relative viscosity and test method
- Melt and extrusion stability
- Film appearance and defect limits
- Stretching/orientation behavior
- Moisture and packaging control
- Required regulatory or food-contact documentation
Moisture control before film extrusion
Because PA6 is hygroscopic, material handling can affect film processing. Drying should follow the selected grade's technical recommendations and the processor's validated operating window.
Good storage and closed transfer after drying can help reduce reabsorption. When film defects appear, raw-material moisture is one of several variables that should be checked alongside temperature profile, residence time, filtration and line conditions.
How to discuss a BOPA resin requirement
Provide the current resin grade, line type, film structure, target thickness range, key processing issue if any, required documentation and estimated annual demand. This allows a supplier to determine whether an existing film-grade PA6 is an appropriate starting point.
Final suitability should be confirmed through technical documentation and production-scale evaluation before commercial conversion.

Does STRANTOP currently offer a dedicated film-grade PA6 product?
No. STRANTOP does not currently offer a dedicated film-grade or BOPA PA6 product. The film resources on this site are technical references; current commercial PA6 offerings should be checked on the PA6 product page.
What does BOPA mean?
BOPA means biaxially oriented polyamide film.
Can any PA6 resin be used for BOPA?
No. BOPA suitability should be confirmed for the specific resin grade and film process.
Is food-contact compliance automatic for PA6 film?
No. Compliance depends on the specific grade, formulation, intended use and target-market requirements.
Technical review
This resource is maintained by STRANTOP's technical and commercial team with input from affiliated PA6 polymerization and engineering-plastics resources. It is intended to help customers frame a material discussion; grade-specific specifications, processing conditions, compliance claims and final suitability remain subject to the applicable supplier documentation and customer validation.
